Services / Tax & Income Planning

Your tax bill is a planning decision, not just a filing.

The order you draw income, the year you convert and the account a holding sits in all move the number. We plan those choices ahead of time, alongside your CPA.

WITHDRAWAL SEQUENCING

Which account you draw from changes the bill.

Pulling from taxable, tax-deferred and Roth accounts in a different order can produce a different lifetime tax cost on the same spending. We map that sequence out before the first withdrawal rather than after.

ROTH CONVERSIONS

Pay now or pay later is a real choice.

We model conversions year by year, weighing the tax owed today against projected required distributions and the bracket you may land in later. You see the trade-off before committing to anything.

ASSET LOCATION

Same allocation, different tax cost.

Which account a holding sits in affects what you keep from it. Placing investments across taxable, tax-deferred and tax-free accounts based on how each is taxed is one of the few adjustments that doesn't change your risk.

CAPITAL GAINS

Timing and lots both matter.

Which shares get sold, how long they've been held and what losses are available all shape the result. Those get weighed before a sale rather than discovered on the 1099.

CHARITABLE GIVING

Give the same amount, differently.

Qualified charitable distributions, gifting appreciated shares instead of cash, and grouping several years of giving into one can each change the tax treatment of money you were already giving away.

CPA COORDINATION

One plan, not two.

We share projections and proposed moves with your tax preparer so the plan and the return agree. We don't prepare returns, and we don't want your CPA finding out what we did in April.

How we start

Three steps to a tax plan.

Act in the right year

Your last return and current account registrations tell us where the opportunities are.

We build a multi-year view of income, brackets and required distributions.

Moves are scheduled to the year that fits and revisited each fall before deadlines.
